Fly Fishing with a Songwriter Packages

Antlers & Acorns Songwriters Festival and Boone’s Fly Shop & Guide Service and retail store in a beautiful, historic building in downtown Boone, North Carolina, and Conviction Bourbon are partnering to bring music to fly fishing and fly fishing to music for a week in September.

The High Country is where a perfect cast can happen in the afternoon and a great guitar solo can be heard in the evening. After all, both expressions are art, the ballet of the cast and the fish that takes it and the sound made by strings of wire and instruments of wood. September 4th through the 9th The High Country will be filled with songwriters, those who wrote the songs beloved by many. Headliners include Radney Foster, a damn fine fly fisherman himself, John Paul White (The Civil Wars), Mary Gauthier, and James McMurtry..

Every night during that week the stage at the beautifully restored Appalachian Theatre will feature one or more of these artists and a band of World Class Musicians led by Charlie Richards from Austin, Texas. This week is traditionally a time when fewer fishermen are on the water. A perfect opportunity for you and the guide along with a songwriter to enjoy solitude and tranquility.

You can learn to fish or learn where to fish. Your guide can teach you to cast or show you where to cast. You can bring your gear or count on Boone’s Fly Shop to provide everything you need. And we can recommend cabins ready for you and your dog, you and your partner, you and your five best friends. And we recommend contacting Anderson Cabin Rentals for a cabin, many on stocked water of their own in case you wake up and can’t wait to fish. You can learn to tie flies with Radney Foster, listen to music, drink Conviction Bourbon from inside the wooden walls of Boone’s Fly Shop on Thursday afternoon, September 7th, hosted by Conviction Bourbon.

Only three trips of 2 Anglers each per day: Tuesday, September 5th, Wednesday, September 6th, and Thursday, September 7th are available.
